But it was by far the best one we received. We got a call from Mallory on the 27th (our social worker at Lifeline) saying that we got our LID on Christmas Day!! LID stands for log-in date and basically means we are in China’s database for lack of a better explanation. Just as when we were DTC (dossier to China), LID is another huge step in the adoption process because we can now start receiving referrals on babies!! This does not mean that we know when we will be travelling to China however. That date will not come until after we have been matched with a child and received approval from China to adopt her. For now we continue to wait and learn about the referral process. Basically all we know at this point is that we could received a referral tomorrow or it could be 3 months from now. It just all depends on what files Lifeline receives (and when) that match the age range and special needs we listed. Lifeline should be receiving new files in the next few weeks from some of their partnership orphanages. We would of course love to get a call on one of those babies. But like I said, for now we continue to wait. 🙂
I guess I should back track for a moment. I know I have been terrible about posting updates and I apologize. If you happen to be our friends on Facebook you know that our dossier was sent to China on December 7th. According to the timeline in our adoption manual, we thankfully have been on time or ahead of schedule with most of our paperwork, etc. We’ve only had one snag recently. Our dossier was originally sent to the Chinese Consulate in Houston, TX on November 12. On the 28th I decided to email Mallory and check on our status. She had told us it would only be in TX for about a week, but I was thinking that maybe due to Thanksgiving holidays she just hadn’t gotten a chance to tell us our dossier was back and ready to be sent to China. Unfortunately I learned that the consulate found a mistake in our paperwork. I assume it occurred when our dossier was sent to the Shelby County Courthouse for authentication (whatever that means), but the wrong county name was on the cover letter. I of course was pretty upset, but I have come to learn that hiccups are just unfortunately part of the process. Thankfully the paperwork was quickly corrected and our dossier was en route to China on 12/7. My granny passed away on December 3, so I think the Lord knew we would need some good news that week!
Also, we found out on December 14 that we were not approved to receive a grant with Help us Adopt. It was a little disappointing, but we have had some very generous donations recently and we know that God is providing for this adoption in ways we could not have imagined! Of course, we could still receive some money from Show Hope.
Since most of my posts end up being mini-novels, I will wrap it up. Like I said at the beginning of this post, I have missed updating you all on many dates, approvals, etc. But I’ve added our Adoption Timeline (I’m sure you’ve already noticed) on the sidebar. If there’s an acronym that doesn’t make sense, refer to the Timeline post and hopefully that will help explain any questions you may have.
2012 was certainly an exciting year for us, but 2013 is going to be even better when we finally get our baby girl! Happy New Year everyone!
